Established & Sons has released a table made with uni-directional carbon fiber and steel legs that they call the Surface Table (no relation to Microsoft’s Surface Table). The really cool thing about it is the fact that it’s 4-meters long (12 ft), but only 2mm thick (at the edges):
Two designers, Terence Woodgate and John Barnard, came together to design the limited-edition table (there were only 25 made). One of them, a furniture designer, and the other a Formula One race car designer. They wanted to exploit the inherit rigidity of layered carbon fiber. The cost? You’ll have to contact Established & Sons, but probably more than you can afford!
