With today being the first official day of summer, I figured we had to keep the post within season. So this is a carbon fiber, stand-up paddleboard called the PUMA/Laird Board. The board is brought to us by a dream team of PUMA, professional surfer Laird Hamilton, and surfboard manufacturer Surftech. Hamilton joined boat designer Juan Kouyoumdjian, of Juan Yacht Design, to assist with the creation of this one of a kind board.

The PUMA/Laird Board is perfect for one of everyone’s favorite water sports. It was built by Clear Carbon and Components in the United States (who is known for making the Louis and Clark carbon fiber instruments) and is now being distributed by Surftech. The board features a foam core carbon fiber center and epoxy matrix.

It features red tentacle graphics that matches PUMA’s Mar Mostro, a yacht set to compete in the nine-month around the world Volvo Ocean Race. The paddleboard also boasts some of the same features of the Volvo 70 boat hull design, “both ergonomically and through the use of the same ultra-lightweight materials”. It is the first time that boat hull design innovation has been used in a stand-up paddleboard.

While the PUMA/Laird Board will give you an awesome core workout, it was designed to be able to provide the rider with more agility and speed on the water. Currently the PUMA/Laird Board is listed for $6,500 on Surftech’s website but the website also lets you put in your zip code to help find dealers in your area, so you can save on shipping cost’s as well.
