Even with yesterday being the first official day of Spring, there is still plenty of snow still falling throughout the US. Which helps make this blog post about the Audi carbon fiber prototype skis relevant.

The skis were both designed and developed at Audi Concept Design in Munich in collaboration with ski-making company Head and the German Ski Association.

These carbon fiber skis are uber light with a wooden core, sandwiched between layers of aluminum and titanium then covered in carbon fiber. They weigh just 960 grams per ski, making them about 200 grams lighter than your average skis. Because they are so light-weight, it makes the ride easier. It’s far more agile and maneuverable, allowing you to speed up as you ski down the slope.

This isn’t the first time Audi has dipped their toes into a non-automotive pool, as we have previously featured the design of their carbon fiber e-bike, and it certainly won’t be the last.
