We came across this from our friends at Speedhunters, and just had to share. One VW enthusiast from Hungary brought his Golf MKIII to the Wörthersee 2011 Meet in Germany. The reason it stands out to us the entire exterior has been covered in real carbon fiber (not a wrap, but the real deal). While I know that we’ll catch a little flack because it seems that the exterior panels were simply “skinned” in the material (versus actual body panel replacements), it’s still a great looking job that must have taken a ridiculous amount of time and money to complete.
The downside to using carbon fiber as a “skin” like this is that it’s pretty much just an appearance modification. It would actually hinder performance a bit because it technically adds weight to the body, but it should also theoretically strengthen the body panels more.
The owner did an impressive job of lining up the majority of the carbon fiber weave between panels.
