You’re one of those people who spends their week working and dedicates their weekend to following Formula 1, wishing you knew Valentino Rossi personally. Maybe you even want a dog or a fish to watch the races with, but you’re far too lazy and have too little time to take care of a pet. Well fear no more, thanks to Alastair Gibson, you can have your cake and eat it too. Gibson has created a carbon fiber fish sculpture using parts from actual F1 race cars.
Alastair Gibson spent four years as the lead mechanic for the Benetton F1 team and later served as the race team chief mechanic for BAR Honda for 10 years. So it’s safe to say, when it comes to carbon fiber and F1 race parts, Gibson is a guru.
The coolest thing about these carbon fiber fish sculptures, besides being composed of actual car parts, is that each sculpture comes with a spec sheet indicating where each and every piece has come from. So cool!
Gibson’s website features five different sculptures he has already produced, along with their impeccably detailed spec sheets. While none of the sculptures featured on Gibson’s website are for sale, it states that he is “undertaking a number of private commissions.” We have not been able to find any data on prices but we know it can’t be cheap.
Carbon fiber + authentic F1 car parts = one badass fish sculpture. These carbon fiber fish sculptures are automotive inspired with the racing enthusiast in mind, we only wish we could afford one to hang in our office. If you’re in a better financial position than us, check out Gibson’s website for more information on commissioning your own piece.
