The Lamborghini Aventador J is a force to be reckoned with. This car is gorgeous and innovative, to say the least. Not only was the J built in record time, but it entails features never before seen. And the best part is the visually evident use carbon fiber.
Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, asked Designer Filippo Perini and his crew to to come up with something ‘special’ for this years Geneva Motor Show and in six weeks flat, the Aventador J came to life.
“With the Lamborghini Aventador J, we have molded our brand DNA into its most definitive form to-date. This automobile is as extreme and as uncompromising as only a Lamborghini can be,”
says Stephan Winkelmann.
“The new Lamborghini Aventador J is the most radical open supersports car of Lamborghini’s history. Its name comes from our tradition and combines an unconventional design with technology innovation. Nowadays we are confronted with several regulations that we face in the spirit of challenge. The Aventador J is the proof that, despite the rules, Lamborghini will always make people dream, even in the future.”
Like I said before, the Aventador J entails a feature never before seen called carbonskin. Carbonskin is a brand new carbon fiber material, used in the cockpit and amongst the seats. The seats are also made of forged composite, which is essentially chopped carbon fiber resin that is compressed. The carbonskin is made of woven flexible carbon fibers, which are soaked with a special epoxy resin that helps maintain the fiber structure while keeping the material soft, a result of an innovative Lamborghini patent. It seems that there will be more to come of this new material as it is extremely flexible to use while still maintaining the beautiful aesthetic of carbon fiber.
Carbon fiber can be found all throughout the car as well, not just the use of carbonskin. And why not? We are talking about a Lamborghini here. The monocoque is made from carbon fiber reinforced polymers while other parts of the car such as the bumpers which have been supplemented with carbon fiber fins that act as flow deviators, and the rear diffuser are made with carbon fiber as well, “demonstrating Automobili Lamborghini’s enormous expertise in carbon fiber technology.”
Another cool aspect of the Lamborghini Aventador J is the open-ness factor. The designers decided to leave out not just the roof, but the front windshields as well, leaving the driver and co-pilot with small wind deflectors for each. They better wear something to protect their eyes because this baby soars.
While the Lamborghini Aventador J may look like a ‘you can look but don’t touch’ piece of art, it is totally drivable. Unfortunately, this one pictured, is the only one and is already sold to someone very lucky, for pocket change. Assuming around $2.74 million USD is pocket change for you.
