I have long been a sucker for the black Louis Vuitton bags for men, but they just took it to an entirely different level, a different planet even! In collaboration with BMW, Louis Vuitton has rolled out with a custom set of carbon fiber luggage to go with the upcoming BMW i8 plug-in hybrid.
The set includes two travel overnight bags, one smaller than the other, a garment bag and a hard shell business case, ideal for carrying laptops. They’re all made entirely from real carbon fiber, inspired by the sports car itself. The bags also feature the iconic Damier pattern and a laser etched signature. They are obviously and appropriately all black but the microfibre lining of the bag has electric blue, like BMW’s trademark color. All of the handles are made from dyed natural leather.
“BMW and Louis Vuitton share both a profound appreciation of tradition and a commitment to constant further development,” says Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design. “The use of CFRP in the revolutionary BMW i8 sports car is indicative of an intelligent lightweight construction philosophy. And Louis Vuitton has demonstrated a similar belief in innovation, aesthetics and lightweight design in creating an exclusive luggage collection tailored perfectly to the new BMW i8.”
Not only does the luggage resemble the car so greatly but the designers cleverly designed each piece to fit accordingly in the car using minimum space.
The Garment Bag i8 rests safely on the rear shelf:
Meanwhile the BMW i8 is BMW’s first plug-in hybrid vehicle and the second model from the BMW i brand, both featuring a carbon fiber cell.
The Louis Vuitton luggage series will be available upon request in a selection of Louis Vuitton stores worldwide (Munich, Milan, London, Paris, Moscow, Dubai, New York, Los Angeles) starting April 1st 2014 with pricing starting at a $4,000. Chump change if you ask me 😉
