Everyone likes to travel in style, especially car enthusiasts and carbon fiber enthusiasts. But this time, Lexus has taken stylish travel to the next level. Teaming up with established luggage makers Tumi, Lexus brings to us a set of hard-shell carbon fiber-look suitcases. Keep in mind, these carbon fiber suitcases are actually made from a carbon fiber-like material to give the look of real carbon fiber…but isn’t the real deal. Womp womp. We still wanted to feature it here because of their exclusivity and the fact that they are for a car that does actually have a ton of real carbon fiber on it.
Companies like Ferrari and Porsche have similar travel products but the press release states that this premium line of travel cases is
“customized to complement the look and feel of the 2012 LFA supercar. The dynamic style of the LFA requires a special design of Tumi luggage which will accompany the car in select markets, including the US and Europe. The vehicle identification number (VIN) corresponding with the owner’s LFA will also be inscribed on each bag to complete the exclusive experience.”
With performance and functionality on the brain, the collection is composed of a smaller sized case intended for track racing essentials like gloves and shoes, or just for a short, overnight trip. While the larger ones are meant for longer tips. Made from a carbon fiber-like material, the case also features aluminum parts to accent the black color, resulting in a high-end appearance.
As cool as the idea behind these products is, we think Lexus and Tumi could have sprung for real carbon fiber composite material. Seriously, the customer is going to be paying well over $300,000 for the car, can’t they afford to class-ify the luggage and go the extra mile? We do appreciate however that even though its not carbon fiber, at least they are going for the sexy, sleek look of it and illustrating how carbon fiber is becoming more desirable and attractive to consumers these days.
