When our buddy Albert Roxas made a new blog post after stopping by the GMG Racing facilities, we knew we had to share what he found with our readers. Late last month, GMG Racing brought the first and only Audi R8 LMS GT3 R16 into North America, and boy is it pretty. Â This 2,800 pound beast has an aluminum frame, with tons of carbon fiber body work:
This particular vehicle was acquired from Phoenix Racing out of Germany, the DTM championship team last year. Â GMG will be racing the car in the North American World Challenge GT.
They will also be doing work to further lighten the car with more carbon fiber parts, tune the engine in particular with their own exhaust system, as well as enhancing the suspension.  The plan is take what they learn from racing and tuning the car, and applying that to development of parts that can be used in street and track R8’s.
As crazily modified as this is from a base R8, this car is actually a package out of the box from Audi Sport AG. Â If you’ve got about $300,000 lying around, it may be time to give Audi Sport AG a call.
Here’s a couple track videos so you can hear how this car sounds:
Thanks to Albert Roxas and GMG Racing for pictures and information!
