Carbon fiber heels (Gucci, United Nude), well we can’t say it’s the first time we’ve seen or heard of it but up and coming shoe designer Zuzana Serbak sure seems to have an eye for beauty and the talent to carry it through.
Recent graduate from the Prague Academy of Arts in Architecture and Design, and newcomer to the fashion world, Serbak decided to use composite materials such as carbon fiber as an experimental concept for her debut collection. Upon graduation, Serbak received her masters degree in both Footwear and Fashion Design.
Syuzi from fashioningtech.com got the chance to interview Serbak one on one about her carbon fiber shoe experimental collection. Here are a few highlights from the interview:
“I was interested in using high-tech materials not typically used for shoemaking. I was wondering how I can use the character of these materials in behalf of shoes. I was experimenting with different materials and had to select the strongest ideas.”
She continues,
“The definition of “composite materials” is about mixing two or more materials with absolutely different character (for example fiber reinforcement and liquid matrix) to get a composite with multiplied features. My experimentation’s were based on this definition. The idea of mixing different materials interpreted as visual element was also an inspiration for me.”
And one more quote from Syuzi’s interview, the sentence that says it all, “I think carbon fibre is fabulous for high heels. It’s extremely strong and beautifully lightweight that matches with the subtly of women’s feet.”
The use of carbon fiber in these shoes really adds a unique touch not often seen in the shoe world. Carbon fiber’s ability to form in any way, allows the curves of the heel to appear almost voluminous. The shoes are both innovative and futuristic. And the fact that each shoe is made by Serbak herself, from original design to the construction phase to the final product, is just astounding. We will definitely be keeping our eyes out for when Zuzana Serbak has a brand of her own. Follow her blog for more news and updates.
