We recently had the opportunity to speak with Batt, he specializes in making unique items from carbon fiber pre-pregs in Sweden. He has been building custom racing yachts for the America’s Cup and Volvo Ocean Race for the past 22 years. Utilizing that knowledge of materials, along with his own design ideas, he’s begun to make one-off pieces in carbon fiber through his company BCL.
While most of the items he showed us were simply 3D renderings, the first item that he did actually make was an interesting carbon fiber ying yang coffee table that he has put on eBay and starts at $700.
The top is constructed from MDF with carbon fiber laminated top. There is 200 grams worth of carbon fiber woven cloth, while the ying yang logo is done with uni directional fibers at different orientations to reflect the light differently. The frame is made from steel. It’s hand-made in Sweden, and shipping will run you $200 to get it to you in the US.
