Anyone out there still looking for a belated fathers day gift? Well, this gift set is sure to make up for the lateness. I’m sure when you read the title, you were thinking tourbillon watch, but that’s where you’re wrong. Take a look at the TF Est. 1968 “Tourbillon” pen and matching “Tourbillon” cufflinks. Featuring carbon fiber, they get their name from the actual tourbillon mounted at a 45 degree angle on the top of the pen and in the cufflink.
Tourbillon, which literally means “whirlwind”, is known to counter the effects of gravity by mounting the escapement and balance wheel in a rotating cage. Originally an attempt to improve accuracy, tourbillons are still included in some expensive modern watches as a novelty and demonstration of watchmaking virtuosity. The mechanism is usually exposed on the watch’s face to show it off.
Carbon fiber can be found on both the pens and cufflinks tourbillon faces, along with the top of the pen to accent its steel body. The pen is also available in a number of finishes with varying prices ranging from $750-$900 per pen. Collectors can pick up all seven pens as a set for $5,370. The cufflinks range from $390-$440 and a diamond version will run you $1,950 for the pair.
“The particularly robust TF Est. 1968 cufflinks are air and watertight and resistant to shocks and aggressions of all kinds. Each pair of cufflinks is individually numbered. The diameter of the case holding the balance wheel is a reasonable 20mm, while the weight is 24 grams or slightly less than an ounce,” stated in the products press release.
While writing with a pen may almost seem as outdated as newspapers, we think they aren’t! This carbon fiber pen/cufflink combo makes for an awesome gift set for any man in your life. The pens aren’t available as of now but should be hitting retailers nation wide by mid-July. Did I mention all the pens come with a two year guarantee? Makes it easier to spend that kind of cash on a pen! The jury says, totally worth it!
