XGear is best known for their carbon fiber leather products made especially for Apple products. We first brought in the carbon fiber leather Shadow case for the iPad, which is simply a snap on case for the back. This case looks great and is perfect for protecting the back side of the iPad, but we’ve now got their new Folio case, which offers quite a bit more functionality.
Before we get into the case itself, let’s talk about what carbon fiber leather is as a material. For those seeking real carbon fiber, you’ll have to look at our other options (we do have real carbon fiber cases for the iPad). The best way to describe carbon fiber leather is a leather material with an imprinted carbon fiber pattern. Since it has actual texture to it, it helps reflect light the same way that real carbon fiber does, making it a realistic looking option to real carbon fiber when all you care about is the aesthetic appeal. Carbon fiber is the new black, right?
So back to the case, the XGear Folio carbon fiber leather iPad case uses carbon fiber leather material on the outside, presenting that sleek carbon fiber look while being very durable. On the inside you’ll find a soft padded material to help protect your prized possession. The iPad snaps onto one side, which provides thick plastic corners to ensure ultimate protection. You can then use the carbon fiber leather flap to close the case.
It all looks great, but here’s where the cool functionality comes into play. On the front of the case you’ll see a descending crease. That crease allows you to use the case to stand the iPad up horizontally, which is nice for watching videos or movies. Alternatively you can configure it so that it offers a low profile, slanted position which is amazing for typing since it puts the iPad in a more keyboard-like position for doing so. You’ll need to watch the embedded video below where you can see us typing to grasp what we are explaining best! XGear calls this multi-position easel functionality…and I wouldn’t personally want a case for my iPad without it.
Don’t mind the flap below, it’s supposed to be tucked in:
If you’re interested in purchasing the case, you can find it now in our store…along with other iPad cases, including ones with real carbon fiber. See below for a video overview of the case:
