Talk about problem solving! James Olander, from Denver Colorado, found himself in quite a familiar predicament. Working from his laptop was causing serious damage to his back, neck, wrists, and so on. Being the engineer he is, Olander thought long and hard, and bam, “the Roost” was born.
With a $9300 goal on Kickstarter, set on June 2, 2013, the project quickly blew through that and landed a whopping $189,983 by July 8 with almost 2,500 backers! Wow, talk about impressive.
It is pretty easy to see why so many people liked the idea. The Roost is an ultra portable device that transforms your laptop into a comfortable desktop workstation. Handmade in the USA and using carbon fiber, high-performance Delrin plastic, military-grade ceramic paint and fasteners the Roost can hold over 200 lbs while the stand itself only weights 5 oz. It is also super portable as it folds into 1″ x 1.5″ x 12.5″ (2.5cm x 3.8cm x 31.8cm).
The legs of the roost are made with carbon fiber. Olander said he really needed to make it really strong so he went with carbon fiber because of its super high strength and very low weight.
The Roost is said to fit almost every Apple laptop, along with 9 out of 10 laptops offered at Best Buy. Before buying your Roost today, be sure to check the list of compatible laptops here. The Roost is available for pre-order in a variety of colors, costing $80 each but the standard all black version runs for $75. I think I may have to go place my order once I’m finished here!
