Watch out MacBook Air, there is a new kid on the block who is about to outweigh your benefits and tip the scale just under your 1,080 gram body. Taiwanese company Gigabyte has recently unveiled a new 11.6 inch laptop called the X11 and it’s made completely out of…dun dun dun, carbon fiber.
The X11 is not only Gigabytes lightest laptop on their shelves, it is the worlds lightest laptop now, weighing in at just 975 grams. That is 105 grams less then the coveted 11 inch MacBook Air which as previously mentioned, weighs a mere 1,080 grams. Not only is the X11 said to be the lightest laptop in the world, but its also the first all carbon fiber laptop out there. Which makes sense as carbon fiber and light weight go hand in hand.
The company created this ultra thin notebook with superior design in mind. While carbon fiber helps this notebook keeps its weight low, it also makes for an extremely durable laptop. It is said to be six times stronger than your average aluminum laptop. The thinnest part of the X11 is 0.3cm while the thickest is just 1.65cm.
The X11 is expected to hit the market sometime in July of 2012, ranging from $999-$1,299 USD before tax. Â We recommend checking out Engadget’s gallery to see better “real world” pictures of the laptop.
