We caught our first glimpse of the PPI Razor Audi R8 at SEMA in Las Vegas last year. PPI did an amazing job with the car, and there were hints of carbon fiber all over…but not like their latest beast, the Razor GTR. PPI completely changed the car, starting with giving it a wider body that is all carbon fiber. We can see the extent of this in the prototype before it was finished and painted as shown at the Essen Motor Show in Germany:

Performance

The main addition to performance on the Razor GTR is the supercharger.  Along with an upgraded air filter system and high performance exhaust that is designed to work in conjunction with the supercharger, the car now has 580 hp and 600 lb-ft/tq.  Along with the huge weight decrease which we’ll discuss later, the R8 can achieve a 0-60 time of just 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 206mph.

Aerodynamics

As mentioned earlier, PPI designed a widebody for the Razor GTR that is completely done in carbon fiber…shaving weight wherever possible.  In fact, the car in it’s entirety is about 550 lbs lighter than stock.  The body was wind tunnel tested for aerodynamics.

The front end includes a front diffuser, which reduces lifting forces at the front axle.  There are also new air inlets that feed the radiators with air and channels through to provide optimal cooling to the brake system.  The rear wing in the back has an adjustable Gurney-flap, which balances out the down-force behavior of the front-axle with the rear-axle.  The new Makrolon engine cover includes carbon fiber ram-charged air inlets.

Handling

Since the car is wider, it can accommodate a wider wheel, which PPI of course designed (made from lightweight forged material).  You’ll find 19×10 wheels in the front wrapped in 255/35 Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires, while the rears are a very wide 20×11.5 with 325/25 tires.

The brakes include a 6-piston caliper at the front and rear painted metallic orange.  A new coilover kit was developed with KW Automotive that comes with a hydraulic lift system which can increase ground clearance by 45mm on the fly for those speed bumps.

Interior Upgrades

The interior has carbon fiber everywhere…the hand-brake lever, door sill protectors, drive and radio console surround, door trims, center console inserts, kneepad trims, and the seats.  Aside from that, the stock interior is replaced a high quality onyx nubuck-leather with orange accents and highlights.
