In recent history, we have shared many a carbon fiber bike models with our readers and today we present a carbon fiber tricycle. This is the Windcheetah, a very fitting name for the trike that has set six significant speed and endurance records as well as having the honor of being exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim museum.

The Windcheetah HyperSport Series II, as it is referred to, was introduced back in 2007 while the original Windcheetah has been around for 20 plus years. The HyperSport Series II features an internal framework composed mostly of carbon fiber, resulting in a 20% weight reduction from the Windcheetah ClubSport model while still retaining the original design structure. This trike also features some extremely exciting breakthroughs for the WindCheetah since it was first launched. “A complete revision of all the cast aluminum frame lugs to reduce weight, reduced wall thickness to the frame tubes, new lightweight seat mounts, a specially cutaway seat and seat cushion, revised derailleur mounting arrangement enabling customers to specify much wider gear range than on previous models.”

The company’s website also insists that,

“driver comfort is still high on the list of priorities; a unique HyperActive seat suspension system is standard fitment, the lightweight carbon seat being suspended on carbon fibre leaf springs. The Windcheetah seat cushions absorb vibration from minor road surface imperfections while the carbon leaf springs isolate the rider from larger potholes and bumps that road riders have to deal with. Light and effective, this unique solution has no wearing parts and remains maintenance free for the life of the vehicle. This type of suspension medium is a first in the field of recumbents and is a typical example of the cutting edge technology employed in AVD products.”

While the ClubSport Windcheetah model starts around $3500, the HyperSport featuring carbon fiber, starts around at $5,000 plus shipping. A pretty penny, for a pretty tricycle. The company also features an abundance of accessories on their website, many made from carbon fiber. Such as the carbon fiber bottle cage adapter, a carbon fiber rear rack that offers an additional way to transport belongings, and more. Check them out here.
