Largest Producer Of Carbon Fiber Having Supplier Problems

Zoltek, the world’s largest producer of commercial grade carbon fiber, is feeling the affects of the global recession.  Two analysts from RBC Capital Markets whom cover Zoltek, say that some companies that specialize in making aerospace grade carbon have made too much material.  This will hurt prices.  The demand for carbon fiber from specialized industries such as alternative energy, aerospace, oil, and automotive is falling and unlikely to rebound soon.

Toray to Acquire Large Stake in Advanced Composite

#1 carbon fiber manufacturer based out of Japan, Toray, is said to be acquiring a 21% stake in Germany’s Advanced Composite starting this year.  Advanced Composite makes carbon fiber reinforced plastics used in automotive parts.
